On February 17th, representatives from enterprises and organizations attending the 2023 “Walking Davos” Survey in Hainan made official visits to Haikou, Sanya, Danzhou, and Qionghai. The representatives touring Haikou mainly visited the Jiangdong New Area and the National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone. At both locations, they met with park management agencies and chief representatives of companies that have already settled in the city, and got a detailed understanding of the local development outlook, advantages, and prospects in the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port (Hainan FTP) and explored potential cooperation opportunities.

“As one of the first companies to settle in JDNA, we were attracted by the preferential policies of the Hainan FTP. The Hainan International Energy Exchange—initiated by us, China Huaneng Group and State Power Investment Corporation Limited—has been running smoothly since its registration and establishment in 2019. By the end of 2020, its market turnover already exceeded 100 billion yuan,” said ZHAI Huihui (general manager of Shandong Energy (Hainan) Intelligent International Technology Co., Ltd.) said to junket members visiting the Hainan Energy Trading Building. She added that as the construction of Hainan FTP speeds up, more and more Chinese and foreign companies have begun to pay attention to and settle in Hainan. As one of the FTP's key parks, Jiangdong New Area has—in recent years—been comprehensively promoting the development and construction of infrastructure, major projects, foreign investment, and foreign talents, and has achieved considerable results which were widely recognized by the visitors.

The Airport Economic Zone is one of Jiangdong's six key clusters. As of now, it has already gathered many modern service companies (such as shipping logistics companies, warehousing and processing companies, and cross-border e-commerce companies) and produced results inseparable from its excellent business environment. When the delegation visited the park's Meilan YTO Airport Project, CHEN Guohao (executive deputy general manager of YTO Hainan Branch) said that—since its inception—the project has received full support from JDNA administration in terms of road construction and management, power, and other aspects which further save the company’s time, manpower and material resources and help them accelerate their production.

Some junket members also visited the National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone's Wellhead Medical Project and the Donghu High-Tech Haikou Bio-City Project. At the construction site of the Welllead Medical Project, HE Yongshen (general manager of Hainan Welllead Medical Technology Development Co., Ltd.) showed-off and introduced their latex catheter. “This is our flagship product. Orders for it have been booked full until April and all production lines are now at full capacity.” HE Yongshen said that the policy dividend of the Hainan FTP has doubled their confidence in development. At present, they have set up production bases for six new products in Haikou and, as part of their increased investment in the city, plan to spend an additional 20 million yuan this year on building a new production line.

After the visit was over, attendees confirmed that Haikou—as an important part of the new pattern of coordinated regional development featuring “three poles, one belt and one zone” in the Hainan FTP—has a broad space for development in the headquarters economy, modern service industry, and other fields. All of them indicated that they are looking forward to maintaining contact and exploring further communication with these parks.

“After this visit, I have a deeper understanding of the favorable policies of Hainan FTP. As an energy company, we may cooperate with Hainan on green development in the future," said ZHANG Tiangui (executive vice president of Siemens Energy). He also pointed out that, as a representative of a foreign-invested company, he has become more confident about investing in Hainan after these on-site visits to other companies and their projects.

“I am impressed by the development of the Haikou Jiangdong New Area and the overall development of the Hainan FTP. In recent years, the province's infrastructure has continued to improve. So has the government’s management level.” CHEN Liming (chairman of Greater China, World Economic Forum) also believes that the island will have an enormous space for future development as the preferential policies granted to Hainan FTP by the State come into effect.
