While China’s southern Hainan province continues to adjust its policies for pandemic prevention and control, there has been a rebound in the flow of traffic at the Haikou Meilan International Airport — one of the main transit points to and from the island.

According to an airport official, there were around 350 inbound and outbound flights on Thursday, carrying over 40,000 travelers traveling into and out of the airport.

Under the new policies, the airport has been coordinating with airline operators to recover canceled flights. From December 6-13, the airport brought 42 routes back to life again including 41 daily flights between Haikou and other major cities across the country, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

To expedite the increased traffic flow, the airport has optimized the use of both runways. More than 99% of flights took off and arrived at the airport on schedule since the beginning of this month.

Meanwhile, additional shuttle bus lines and taxis have been made available at the airport, especially during rush hours. A hotline operating 24-7 (0898-966114) and special working groups were also set up to assist passengers in need.
